Brendan O’Hara MP on Ulva to help celebrate the first year anniversary of the community buyout of the Island of Ulva

Fulfilling a promise made to the islanders when they visited Westminster earlier this year, Argyll & Bute MP Brendan O’Hara travelled to the Isle of Ulva on Friday to hold a Constituency Advice Surgery on the first anniversary of the community buy-out of their land.

In beautiful sunshine, on the longest day of the year, while the community prepared to celebrate their achievement with more than 100 guests, Mr. O’Hara set up his stall in the grounds of Ulva House.

Mr O’Hara said of his visit:

“When I hosted an event in Westminster earlier this year in support of the community buyout, I promised I would visit Ulva on the day of the first anniversary and that I would hold an MP advice surgery on the island. And I was determined to keep that promise.”

“This was a hugely significant day for the community and I am both delighted and honoured to have been able to be here to share that with them. What they have achieved, with the help and support of the Scottish Government’s Land Fund will be transformational for the island and I think it is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when government and communities work together. The community know that I am a big supporter of what they are planning to do and I am really excited to see how this island will develop for the benefit of the whole community.”
