Local MP, Brendan O’Hara has supported a Parliamentary Early Day Motion remembering the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters in the line of duty.

Marking its second anniversary on the 4th May, Firefighters’ Memorial Day will recognise firefighters, who stand ready to risk their lives to save others and protect communities from fire, floods and numerous emergencies.

Commenting: Brendan O’Hara said:

“Over the past year we have witnessed the dangers and bravery of our own local fire service and this is an excellent opportunity for the community to thank and honour all of our firefighters, particularly in Argyll and Bute.”

“Their heroism and selfless dedication is remarkable, especially as they continuously risk their own lives to keep us safe.”

“It is also important to remember the courageousness and sacrifice of the 2,524 fallen firefighters who have died in the line of duty and this National Memorial Day gives us that opportunity to pay our respects and to champion our devoted and brave firefighters for the work that they do, day in day out to protect us from danger.”

Local events will be taking place at fire stations on May 4th to mark this occasion, with a scheduled midday silence. To find your local brigade, go to www.fbu.org.uk/contacts
