Just finished a wonderful day of surgeries and constituency visits on beautiful Islay. The sun shone and there can be few places I’d rather be than here in this weather. After a very busy surgery and a meeting with the island’s Ferry Users Group to discuss the serious consequences to the local economy of latest crisis with the loss of one of the ferries at this, the busiest time of the year, I visited John Campbell, manager of the the palm-tree covered Laphroaig distillery. Then it was off to the McTaggart Leisure Centre in Bowmore to meet some of the brave swimmers planning to swim the 3 miles across Lochindaal tomorrow to raise funds for this vital local sports facility. Incidentally, this facility has the only view from a gym window that would ever make me want to join a gym. After another constituency surgery I enjoyed a lovely social evening with the members of Islay SNP at the Gaelic college in the town. Huge thanks to Jenni Minto for all her help in making the day the huge success it was.
Off to Jura tomorrow.
