“Further assurances for the Vale of Leven Hospital”:

cropped-IMGL7671.jpgIt is rare to go any length of time without a further ‘scare’ about the future of the Vale of Leven Hospital.
As a local Helensburgh resident, I have every reason to be just as concerned as my neighbours.
With that in mind and following some of the more recent commentary, I wrote to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, Shona Robison MSP, to clarify the future of the Vale of Leven Hospital.
Unsurprisingly, I have had full reassurance and commitment, once again, to the “Vision for the Vale”, agreed by the SNP government seven years ago in 2009, which ended a decade of damaging Labour uncertainty for the hospital.
And, its time to once again reaffirm that Health Boards should and do keep their services under review to ensure they are providing the highest quality and efficient services they can.
I have been again reassured that no specific proposals have been formally considered locally or put forward to the Government for consideration.
The Health Board has set out their intention to review how some birthing services are delivered and this will include work with the Chief Medical Officer to look at midwifery delivery services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde.JS82694242Shona Robison has made it clear that it would be unacceptable if any formal proposals are not consistent with national policy, including the review of maternity services currently underway.
As Shona has indicated, these must be subject to proper and meaningful engagement with those affected.
It should come as no surprise that the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, Shona Robison MSP has offered me specific reassurance for everyone in the local community that she sees a bright future for the hospital, which plays a crucial role in the local healthcare system.
